The National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) leading the Philippine celebration of the 1521 Victory at Mactan has extended the deadline of the Quincentennial Art Competition to January 6, 2021.
At the same time, the NQC also extended the deadline for the Lapulapu National Monument Design Competition, also to January 6, 2021.
The "2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines" (2021 QCP) is the collective name for the different 500th anniversaries in Philippine history next year.
April 27, 2021 will be the 500th year since Filipinos defeated Western invaders on Mactan Island.
Aside from the Victory at Mactan, the other historical events that will be celebrated in 2021 are:
the 500th year since the first circumnavigation of the world (to be commemorated from March 16 to October 29, 2021)
the 500th year since Christianity was introduced to the Philippines.
The NQC said the painting competition has four themes: sovereignty, magnanimity unity, and legacy.
Participants may submit one entry per theme.
The grand prize winner will receive P500,000 while the runners-up will get P50,000 each.
